District Conference Information

Page last updated: April 3, 2015

This page outlines important information regarding the District 7 Conference, so be sure to read it completely and carefully! Please use the online survey as soon as possible to indicate your conference attendance.

Location: Lansing, Michigan (Michigan State University). We will be staying at the University Quality Inn on Friday night (click here for maps/directions). The conference will be held at Michigan State University in the Engineering Building Room 1145 (click here for maps/directions). Traveling to Lansing will take the Michigan schools and OH-Z less than 2 hours while Ohio schools will take between 2.6 hours and 5 hours.

Date: Saturday, April 11, 2015

Time: 8:30 AM to 4:15 PM.

Parking: Parking at the hotel is free. Parking for Friday night dinner is free. Parking on campus is free and no passes are needed. We recommend parking in lot 39, 40, or 56. These are all gated lots and the gates should be up on Saturday. If they aren't you may park in lot 41 which is ungated. Lot locations can be obtained from the MSU map link above.

Who should attend: Both old and new officers - especially the chapter President, Vice President, Corresponding Secretary, and Treasurer - but all officers are welcome. It is especially important for next year's president and corresponding secretary to attend as well as this year's president. If you don't have next year's officers elected already, try to bring people who are interested in becoming an officer, even if they haven't been initiated yet. Also, all advisors are welcome and encouraged to attend. We will have sessions geared for advisors, so you are strongly encouraged to invite one of your advisors to attend.

Area Alumni: Alumni living in the central Michigan area are more than welcome to join us for any or all of the activities on Saturday. We suggest coming around lunch time (12:00pm) to join the student members for lunch followed by a presentation by Vice President of the association, Norman Pih and our always competitive Battle for Toledo!

Attire: Dress for the District Conference is business casual. If you attended convention, you should dress as you did on Thursday and Friday of Convention. Slacks, casual dress pants, skirts, collared shirts, sports shirts with collars are all fine. You do not need to wear a suit, dress, or shirt and tie, but we do ask that you avoid jeans, shorts, t-shirts, and work-out wear as well.

Friday Night Dinner: Conference attendees arriving on Friday night are invited to join the District for dinner. We will meet in the hotel lobby around 6:30 PM and then head over to dinner at Hall of Fame Cafe (click here for maps/directions). Dinner on Friday night will start around 7:00 PM. Anyone arriving in the Lansing area later is welcome to stop by and join us. The District will be covering dinner expenses for up to four people from each chapter. Our hosts will be on hand and can point out any items of interest for your after dinner enjoyment.

Hotel Accommodations: We encourage any chapter having to travel much more than two hours to stay overnight Friday night (all chapters at Ohio schools except OH-Z). There will not be an option of staying in the hotel on Saturday night and driving back on Sunday. The University Quality Inn is located at 3121 E. Grand River Ave., Lansing, MI 48912. Their phone number is (517) 351-1440, but you should RSVP through the online survey to reserve your hotel room. You can contact the District Directors at to make or change your reservations after you confirm them through this web site. Directions and maps to the hotel are provided in the link above in the Location section.

Reimbursement of Cost: Due to finances of the organization as a whole being a hot topic over the past couple of years, our reimbursement policy will be more strict this year. We will be covering the full cost of only up to four people (one car) to attend the conference from each Chapter. Full costs include

Food expenses en route to and from the conference will NOT be covered. Also, only one trip to the conference will be covered. So for chapters that are within the two-hour driving distance (a.k.a. chapters not authorized to be reimbursed for hotel room), if you choose to join us for dinner Friday night, dinner will be paid for, but mileage will not be reimbursed. In the case of these chapters, only mileage for the day of the conference will be covered. Chapters are welcome to bring additional members, but they will not be reimbursed by the district.

Ratification Ballots: Don't forget that your Constitution Ratification Ballots are due April 1. You can complete your Chapter's vote via e-mail, but make sure to get it postmarked by April 1. You do not need to spend extra money to overnight it or see that it gets there by April 1...a postmark will suffice!

2016 District Conference Hosts We will be selecting the host and date of the 2016 District Conference at this year's conference. Since the conference is in Michigan this year, it will be in Ohio next year. All Ohio schools are encouraged to put in a bid to host. If you are interested, contact your DDs for more information.
